One of the main purposes of NOfOD is to arrange conferences for dance research.

In 1990 the first NOfOD-conference was held in Copenhagen.

Hereafter the board, consisting of two representatives from each of the five Nordic countries the board, has arranged a conference every second year in collaboration with a local university or other institution. Starting with Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland. In 2004 Iceland hosted their first NOfOD conference.
