Reykjavík Conference 2026

17th NOFOD Conference

Centre & Periphery: Dance, Identity & the Politics of Place

June 23 – 26, 2026

Iceland University of the Arts

The Nordic Forum for Dance Research (NOFOD) 17th conference, themed Centre & Periphery: Dance, Identity & the Politics of Place, will be held in Reykjavík 23-26th of June 2026.

Hosted in Reykjavík, the conference takes inspiration from Iceland’s unique position. Often described as being on the periphery of the Nordic region, the volcanic island is also seen by locals as a central meeting point between continents. This tension of centre and periphery is a powerful starting point for exploring how dance practices and research negotiate hierarchies, belonging, accessibility, traditions, and transformations across cultures and contexts.
